Mournful Gust is a six headed band hailing from the Ukraine. I heard of the band through the album “She Is My Grief”, which was released in 2000. That album showed that they picked up a lot from the British scene, especially My Dying Bride or The Prophecy. “She Is My Grief” also contained some interesting parts, although you had the feeling that you have heard it all before. But that was my only point of criticism. After 8 years they are back with a brand new album called “The Frankness Eve”. While listening to the album, I noticed that they kept the sound that they played on their debut, only more in balance and with a small own identity. All songs have a lot of melody, the compositions are very good and there is a lot of sphere on the album. Besides sounds of desperation and tragedy, you also can hear small folk parts. Strong songs on the album are To Your Deceits..Again and With Every Suffering. The variation in the vocals is also a strong point of them by the way. The album sounds better production wise compared to their debut. I only think that the keyboards should be a bit more in the background. Concluding I can only say that its a good doom/death metal album that will please fans from this scene.
