Soreption
Illuminate The Excessive
Cube 1 Records
Soreption is a relatively new technical death metal act from Sweden who deliver their debut 4-track MCD in the form of “Illuminate The Excessive”. The cool part about this release is the fact they’ve included a DVD as well.
The band do not use titles for their songs, they simply number them, so the songs here are entitled ‘1’ to ‘4’, the songs on their upcoming full-length will be titled from 5 to 12.
Musically you get pretty technical death metal played at a mid-pace tempo most of the time which allows you to follow exactly what the band is playing and the riffs are quite interesting. I kinda dig this style and it seems more and more bands from Sweden step away from the classic Swedish death metal sound. Bands like Soreption are following in the footsteps of a band like Spawn of Possession.
Anyway, musically it’s a pretty cool MCD. The DVD showcases the band doing their first ever gig in their hometown of Sundsvall and besides the tracks present on the MCD you can also hear track ‘9’ that’ll be included on their full-length. The DVD is a nice asset but there’s no reason to buy this MCD just because of this DVD. If they would have left out the DVD a purchase of this MCD would have been equally justified.
