After 2006’s “The Womb of the Earth” Finland’s Fall of the Idols return with their second full-length. “The Seance” shows the band has made another step forward in creating doom metal with very catchy riffs and an eerie atmosphere. The compositions are pretty easy to follow and there’s nothing really fancy going on except for groovy slow riffs that are pretty heavy. Now there’s one thing that I feel Fall of the Idols forgot to do; I think they could have benefited a bit more from the fact they have three guitarists with more multi-layered guitar parts. On the other hand I think the songs presented here will do really well in a live environment. I actually can’t think of anything else to tell about this album. It’s simply a very good doom album with catchy songs but it’s also an album that I wouldn’t consider to be an essential album within the genre. I guess you should have to check it out to see if you like it.
