“Black Society” is Arthemis’ fifth full-length and their best to date from this Italian act featuring members of Powers Quest. It contains everything a fan of proper heavy metal is looking for; the music is heavy and powerful and at times speedy. Next to that the compositions are catchy and contain enough variation to keep it all interesting. Especially the guitar work is interesting. The varied influences make sure a lot of people might enjoy “Black Society”. A track like ‘Electri-fire’ for instance contains some Anthrax influences, where the song ‘Medal of Honour’ has some hints of the older Ozzy material and ‘Escape’ sounds a bit like Yngwie Malmsteen. Vocalist Alessio Garavello sounds a bit like Labyrinth vocalist Roberto Tiranti at times so a reference to that band is justified here as well. As you can see it’s a pretty wide variety of influences but the result is consistent and resulted in a very good power metal album.
