Advertised as being a secretive Swedish epic metal act it’s quite clear that Daniel Bryntse of Isole is involved in Ereb Altor, although it’s not that obvious as he calls himself Ragnar when it comes to Ereb Altor. Still, because of the fact this album was recorded at Studio Apocalypse, which is the home studio of Isole, and the musical resemblances to Isole are pretty obvious. Not that it’s all that important as this 2 man act deliver music that differs quite a bit. Ereb Altor basically is very much influenced by the Bathory albums “Hammerheart” and “Twilight of the Gods”, so you get a fine dose of Viking metal that is epic, melancholic and melodic. Like said you will hear some Isole too and also a band like Russia’s Scald is comparable to Ereb Altor. “By Honour” therefore is an album that you absolutely have to hear when you dig this particular style. It’s a decent, above-average album!
