Aborted
Strychnine.213
Century Media
Belgium’s Aborted is a very interesting band when you look at their past. They started out as a grinding death metal act and underwent a subtle evolution. On their third full-length “Goremageddon: The Saw and the Carnage Done” they sounded a bit like “Heartwork”-era Carcass and even though the influences are still audible to this day you never could blame Aborted of any plagiarism; they always managed to sound like…Aborted. Another thing that seems to be a big part in the band’s past is the amount of former members. The line-up has changed on almost every record, yet the quality of the music was always guaranteed even though they now have become a multinational act with members from Belgium, France and the UK.
Knowing this you can only respect Aborted. They incorporated their changes in such a manner that you’ll understand these changes as a fan. Aborted won’t get dissed by their fans like what happened recently with Cryptopsy whose style simply changed too much (in the opinion of a lot of fans). Aborted on their fifth album “Strychnine.213” has incorporated quite a few new elements to their style, like very melodic solos and electronics, but they’ve done it with such subtlety that you can totally respect their development. So, you won’t have to be afraid you get a completely different Aborted here. They still know how to blast away and come up with brutal stuff. It’s just more varied and mature, resulting in a killer album.
