I already mentioned it a couple of times before, but Hellwitch is one of the most underrated bands from the eighties. The band only released 2 albums, to be more exactly one full-length (Syzygial Miscreancy) and one EP (Terraasymmetry). Hellwitch was a very progressive and technical band, with the ability to play as fast as hell. Unfortunately the band split in 1998, but in 2004 they released, to my big surprise, a 4-track demo, with 2 old but more important, 2 new songs; finally a sign of life of them. In 2007 Hellwitch decided to get back in business and so a new album is in works, “Omnipotent Convocation”.
But before that album comes out, Displeased Records makes it possible to get their first album together with their demos “Transgressive Sentience” (1986), “Mordirival Disemanation” (1987) and “Nosferatu” (1984) together with a 1989 rehearsal recording. The sound of the demos is not that great, but who cares? This is fucking history!
But if you want to enjoy Hellwitch on their best, then you should listen to the first 7 tracks, because those are the tracks of their only full-length album. Its 25 minutes of heavy death/thrash that rarely falters. This album is history and should be in everyone’s collection. Some people will stick to a band like Atheist, but in my opinion Hellwitch had more potential.
By the way, in 2003, Progressive Art Music released almost a similar album from Hellwitch called “Final Approach” and this album has almost the same track list besides some small differences. This album contains the track Dawn Of Apostasy from the “Terraasymmetry” EP.
Anyway, I can hardly wait until the new album will come out. But until then you and I should listen to some old material. Is that a problem? No, absolutely not!
