Rusty Cage Records is known for re-releasing ‘famous’ Dutch metal bands. This it’s “For The Universe” from Martyr. This album is included with their new 5-track EP “Fear”, hence the title “Fear The Universe”.
“Fear” the latest music, shows that Martyr has followed its timeline. The EP has a modern sound with modern tracks. The first thing you notice is that “Fear” sounds harder. The music is also a lot more in your face. It’s good to hear that these kinds of bands don’t stay in the past and create an album that can match with younger bands. Thumbs up by the way for Rop van Haren; he, as a vocalist, sounds stronger then Gerard Vergouw. But it’s hard to compare both vocalists, because the style was a bit different at back in the day.
For people who haven’t got “For The Universe”, this is a good moment to get this one. The album has speed, melody and has the early eighties style with all ingredients. Ok, every now and then they took too much from bands like Anvil, but I forgive them. There were enough progressive elements in their music as well. It’s a pity though that the album doesn’t have that strong sound like “Fear” has.
So what I hear now from this 5 track teaser, I can nothing do than conclude that Martyr is back. Now please work on a full length album.
