When I received the latest Killswitch Engage promo, I though that I had a re-release in my hands. But to my big surprise it was the newest album of these Americans. They simply released another album with the title “Killswitch Engage”. Hopefully they had more inspiration for their music.
Compared to their previous album “As Daylight Dies”, the band goes back in time. Not as far as the first albums, but to the time they released “The End Of Heartache”. Its less raw and intense compared to the beginning, but the emotion is still present. Killswitch Engage keeps the melody in mind and builds the album around it. Vocalist Howard Jones also steps away from his screams and mainly sings clean and that makes the album a lot fresher. In my opinion, they are open for a bigger audience.
The new album has perhaps some new elements; its still a Killswitch Engage album, a result from a logical development. While still packing plenty of punch and aggression, their melodic side is even more developed on this album. Its not a dramatic shift, its just a little more polished in places. For me its a decent new album, nothing more, nothing less.
