Arkaea is a new metal band formed in 2008 by members of Threat Signal and Fear Factory. Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera had some material left from their Fear Factory period and they decided release it with a new band. They got in contact with John Howard and Pat Kavanagh from Threat Signal to release this stuff.
As Im not a big fan of the latest music from Fear Factory, I had my doubts. Since Dino left that band, it was mediocre overall and I have to say this about “Years In The Darkness” too. When I listened to the album, I had the feeling that I heard it all before. Ok, there are Fear Factory influences and Threat Signal sounds are there too. But I also hear bands like Bleed The Sky and MAN. These bands are not known for their identity, I can tell you that.
Instrumental-wise it isn’t that bad, but Ive heard more convincing vocalists. John Howard cant keep my attention. He lacks on the melodic parts. Perhaps that has something to do with the production too, because it has really no warmth. Its in my opinion overproduced. I dont think that this album will bring what they expect.
Anyway, as long as the battle goes on for the name Fear Factory, you can listen to Arkaea. But I doubt if you will do it often.
