A while ago the English magazine Terrorizer published a special about death metal from the UK. Quite a nice read but only about bands that play the more modern styles of death metal. The fact there’s a rise of raw old-school death metal going on apparently wasn’t noticed. Bands like Grave Miasma (formerly Goat Molestör), Adorior, Diamanthian and Cruciamentum are the most important bands in that genre right now. Perhaps Terrorizer thought these bands were more like black metal concerning their clothing style. You won’t find baggy pants here but denim, leather and spikes. Right now we’re talking about Cruciamentum who after a single-track demo in 2007 now deliver four new songs. On cassette that is! I hope you all know what a cassette is? Cruciamentum consists of three members who are also active in bands like Indesinence, Imindain, Grave Miasma and Adorior. They deliver a fine dose of death metal that because of the harsh production sounds extremely raw and filthy. Think a bit in the direction of a mix between Necros Christos and Funebrarum. But that’s exactly what it’s all about concerning death metal. In short, this is great.
