German thrash metal legends Destruction played in ‘De Bosuil’ in Weert (The Netherlands). Supports were Scared To Death and Debauchery. Although this venue can hold about 650 people, only 150 people showed up to see this great line-up. Off course this is way too little for such a great band and the nice venue itself.
Scared To Death had the honor of opening the evening. They have released their debut in 2006, a self-released 9-track demo by the name of “Your Pain Is My Passion’. In 2008 they released ‘Deathstruction’ on STF Records. Their influences are clearly from the 80’s though; as they play thrash metal with melodic and power metal influences. The singer reminded me of Swiss thrash band Coroner. Although the band was good, the audience wasn’t too enthusiastic. Maybe they needed a couple of beers to warm them up.
Second band of the evening was Debauchery. They came on stage covered with blood and put up an energetic show. The crowd was starting to go crazy on this band. Highlight in my opinion was ‘Hard Rockin’’ from their latest record called "Continue To Kill". As ‘Debauchery’ is a death metal band you could argue if this fits on a thrash metal night, but the audience enjoyed it, so there is no need to argue. Debauchery is more than welcome to perk up my thrash night.
And then it was time for Destruction. The band recently released "D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N". But this evening they played songs from all of their works. The show was great and the band was in good shape. The sound also was terrific. One wonders how a three man combo can make such noise. The audience immediately started to go crazy as soon as Destruction entered the stage. And that was the only right thing to do with tracks like ‘Bestial Invasion’, ‘Life Without Sense’, ‘Death Trap’, ‘Thrash Till Death’, ‘Tormentor’, ‘Invincible Force’, ‘The Butcher Strikes Back’, ‘Curse The Gods’ and ‘Nailed To The Cross’. As you can read from all the classics they’ve been playing, this show was fucking awesome.
